Moving Towards Wellness (MTW) Course
Moving Towards Wellness courses are designed to assist people to manage chronic health conditions and help them get the most out of life.
Arthritis South Australia note that as a result of chronic illnesses or conditions, people can "lose physical conditioning and suffer problems over many years. Some examples of chronic conditions are arthritis, diabetes, emphysema, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, lung disease, heart disease and stroke".

National Bowel Cancer Screening Program - Defective self-test bowel cancer kits
Members of the public tested with National Bowel Cancer Screening Program Kits between 1st December 2008 and May 2009 returning a negative result will need to be retested due to the impaired quality of a batch of test kits. People who have used the screening kit and have received a positive result do not need to retest but should still follow standard NBCSP procedure and see their doctor to arrange further investigation.
The Department of Health and Ageing will contact all people who received defective kits to advise of new test options.

Practice nurses looking for clarification about their role in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program can log onto a free onine learning module can provide you with the answers. New Asthma Control Pack
The Asthma Foundation of SA will distribute NEW Asthma Control Packs to general practice over the next couple of weeks. The packs provide key information and resources for health professionals and parents & carers, including best practice guidelines and asthma care plan templates. Internet Chronic Disease Self Management Program (ICDSMP) SA Health Trial
Do you (or someone you know) have a chronic condition? (e.g. diabetes, arthritis, lung or heart disease?)
ICDSMP is an internet based self management program which runs for 6 weeks.
This FREE program can be done day or night when it suits you - all you need is basic computer skills and access to the internet.
Your time commitment is about two and a half hours per week.
People who commit to the program will receive a free copy of the book Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions, Third edition.

Chronic Disease Risk Factor & Self-Management Training Program 2009
Health providers can access up to date information about chronic disease risk factors and self-management through a series of workshops to be held over the coming months. Topics include: arthritis, schizophrenia & bipolar disorder, oral health and chronic conditions, diabetes, stress and stress management, obesity-fact and fiction, chronic heart failure and the list goes on. Preference will be given to health professionals from government, community and private practice in the Southern Adelaide Health Service region however; there is invariably enough room for everyone.
Training participants will receive practical tips for implementing evidence-based practice, clinical guidelines, case studies, links to useful websites and community resources and have the opportunity to network with others.

Implementing lifestyle change: CPD Education at gplearning
A new Active Learning Module has been developed by the RACGP and Heart Foundation to help general practitioners and other primary health care professionals to tackle key behavioural/lifestyle risk factors that impact on the health of our patients: smoking, nutrition, alcohol and physical activity.

Draw the line
The Draw the Line campaign aims to prevent unhealthy weight gain among Western Australian adults. Overweight or obese adults face an increased risk of heart disease, some cancers and type 2 diabetes. Launched in February 2009 by the Heart Foundation WA, Cancer Council WA and Diabetes WA, the Draw the Line campaign highlights practical steps people can take to draw the line on further weight gain.
