OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF RESPONSIBLE GAMBLING AWARENESS WEEK AND THE GPSA PROBLEM GAMBLING RESOURCE KIT
18 and 19 May, 2009
The Department for Families and Communities are launching Responsible Gambling Awareness Week on Monday, 18 May, 2009 - with Minister Carmel Zollo opening the event. The Department have requested GPSA coordinate 2 launches – one to be held at a suburban Division of General Practice and one in a regional Division. The Department is funding the event and GPSA will organise the event - in consultation with the Divisions re advice on venue and catering appropriate to the Division. Invited will be local and regional Division members and staff, Problem Gambling Help Services, Gambling Industry representatives, community service groups and government workers.

- Media attention re the vital role general practice plays in confronting difficult issues involving personal and community health – illness prevention etc. Promoting the accessibility of the local general practice and their links with community health – in the name of assisting patients and their families to deal with serious health problems.
- The opportunity to support a RESOURCE KIT of value to all Division members to identify problem gambling and give practical and best practice recommendations re identification, assessment and treatment.
