Divisions of General Practice network

  • Established and managed by general practitioners.
  • Regional groupings of general practitioners - nine in rural SA, five in the metropolitan area (three of which have a rural chapter).
  • High membership of general practitioners - 100% in rural SA, 90-95% in the metropolitan area.
  • Professionally staffed.
  • Support general practitioners to meet the challenges of the changing health environment.
  • Encourage networking of general practitioners with: health care workers, local hospitals, non-government organisations, consumer groups and government agencies, both State and Commonwealth.
  • Aim to improve patient health outcomes through reduced fragmentation of care.
  • Provide a voice for general practitioners in health policy and planning, locally, Statewide and nationally.
  • Assist general practitioners to take up new initiatives in areas such as immunisation, information management, mental health, diabetes and cardiovascular health and GP obstetric shared care.
